A Fun Gratitude Journal for Kids

Gratitude Journal

I wanted to introduce this fun gratitude journal for kids to all my fellow parents and caregivers. Its called “Today is Great”  I didn’t know we needed this until I received it! It’s worth talking about. Created by my friend Vicki which I have known for over 10 years. She has a blog at A Mess for Less. As a mom of 4 and former teacher she wrote this book to assist children to be more grateful and happier.  It couldn’t come at a more perfect time for us.

Always a distraction

I truly believe that in this day and age the electronics distract kids from seeing and feeling gratitude about life.  With the distraction of video games, after school activities and electronics kids can have a hard time to look around and take the time to be grateful. I think gratitude is something that needs to be instilled and practiced. Babbling on about being grateful doesn’t cut it in our household. Listening can be a challenge because of all the distractions like watching the next mystery toy another kid is going to open YouTube.  I have discovered I needed this book and activity to help introduce gratitude to my child and help take time out together.  It literally doesn’t take much time out of our day.

Happy kids

Studies show that practicing gratitude makes a person happier. So when I say time to get off electronics I hope it won’t be so difficult. I am hoping by practicing using this gratitude journal with him that the foot stomping and pouty faces ease up and I can see more smiles on his face and watch him do great things in life.

When I introduced it my son before school and he took interested because the little characters look like Pac-Man like characters. Hey, I will take it. So I read the introduction it to him. It’s plain and simple so he was clear on what to do. We started the morning writing what he was grateful about the day before but we will make it a daily practice at bedtime.

It doesn’t take a lot of time which is a plus. There is also additional weekly question he can answer anytime plus a weekly gratitude challenge.

It didn’t take him long to figure out what to write from the previous day. He wrote had earned his next stripe in Taekwondo which has been a struggle for him. He was proud to write it in the book.  So I sent him along to school with a reminder to take notice what he was grateful for so he can write it in his book in the evening.
