Blast Off to Evan’s 2nd Birthday Party
Back in the dead of winter I began thinking about what theme my son’s birthday party would be. It was decided on Sesame Street. He wasn’t a huge fan but likes it and for a 2 yr old party I thought the theme was just right. That’s until Buzz and Woody came into the picture. After receiving 2 dolls over the winter from my mom happy meal collection he was hooked on Toy Story and in particular Buzz! How could I not through a Toy Story Party? He dreamed and breath the word buzz and wouldn’t go anywhere without him. That is when the plans began on the Blast off to Evan’s 2nd Birthday.
Invitations were created by me in photoshop. On the back had the details.
With the backyard being made into Midway Mania with game stations and the food area being Pizza Planet it seemed to take shape. Despite the wind that blew the balloons everywhere it was a perfect day in May so far.
Moving boxed were used to make giant block, I photoshopped a few signs and had them printed up as well. I also had a Donation box and requested on the invitation for the kids to bring used toys that we will donate to a local organization.
The kids table was decorated with Toy Story cups filled with goodies.
On the menu included of course Pizza and salad. I wanted to keep the cooking to a minimum this year because its so much work. We had alien juice which consisted of green Hawaiian Punch and Sprite.
The back yard was set up as Midway Mania. We had a Playhut giant Buzz to clime through, bean bag toss, Build your Mr. Potato head table, Toy story rug game and Buzz Bowling. The kids has a ball. If they completed all the games they got to go to Al’s Toy Barn Prize Table and collect their prizes.
Then there was the photo booth. I found great free printables on this site: http://www.merrimentdesign.com/toy-story-photo-booth-props-free-printable-pdf.php. All the kids got to dress up and get their picture taken. It was a lot of fun. If only the adults would have joined in too, well some did anyway. Each child received their picture in their Thank you cards a few weeks later.
The weather took a turn for the worse with light rain so we moved the dessert table inside. I decided to make the cake this year again. I did alien cupcakes along with a 9 inch Buzz Lightyear chocolate cake. It was the best chocolate cake I ever made and everyone seem to rave about it. The fondant decorations was done by my very talented friend Crystal. She lives in CA so we worked it out to ship it to PA and came with no problems. Her website is http://www.yasumidesigns.com/ and she does amazing work! Check her out. So you can give her and myself credit for the cake. I also make Rocket krispies pops , rocket cookies and served mini moon pies I found in the dollar store.
Overall I was very happy how the party turned out everyone had fun despite the rain and everyone cramped in my house by the end of the party.
Finally, to add to the excitement of his birthday I send in a card to the PBS Sprout Channel it made it on the Morning Show with Carly and Chica! If anyone wants to send in a card the instructions are on their website. www.sproutonline.com
Although I am unsure of how they select the cards to air, creating maybe or timing. I sent it in about 3 weeks before his birthday. If you do be sure to photograph it before you send it because they do not return them.
I wonder what next year will bring? What will you be planning for your little ones birthday this year?
