Chicken & Noodles Recipe
This Instant Pot Chicken & Noodles is Heaven in a bowl! When I get compliments from both my picky husband and my son I know it’s a winner.
A classic dish REJUVENATED
I didn’t grow up on this dish but I know it’s a classic comfort food for many families. I recently came across this dish at the Backwoods Festival just outside where we live in Columbus, OH. It’s a popular dish at the festival and you usually have to stand in a long line to grab a cup.
My husband wasn’t able to go to the festival this year to get some so I decided that someday I was going to try to make it at home. I tend to try spur of the moment meals which is why I love my Instant Pot. Sometimes I get lucky its a keeper on the first try. This was one of them!
My version has mixed veggies in them because I know my son will eat them this way with noodles and get some veggie in him. You can certainly leave the veggies out as the classic dish is served with only chicken and noodles. However I think by adding the veggies it makes for a hardier healthier version. It is almost like a chicken pot pie with noodles. This is an easy weeknight meal that takes about an hour total.
The key to this recipe is the noodles. I used a frozen bag of noodles called Reames.
If you are wondering if you can use dry uncooked egg noodles the answer is I do not know. I suspect because it’s a thicker brother it may not cook correctly. I do cook a similar, chicken pot pie casserole, but that has milk and chicken broth which helps cook the dry noodles. However, this recipe liquid is thicker because of the condensed soup and I am not sure it would turn out. If anyone tries it let me know. I also used a mixture of boneless chicken breasts and boneless thighs because is what I had on hand. You can use either.

Woohoo!!! I’ve been waiting on someone to adapt this recipe to the IP! I love it in the crockpot, but I never remember to put it together! Just about finished with it now for dinner tonight!
Ok…we just finished eating. The noodles didn’t get to cook right because I kept getting the burn message….any thoughts?
Megan. Did you use the frozen noodles? The noodles go on top and not on bottle of pot. I have never gotten a burn message on any of my instant pots but I heard other people occassionally do. Sorry, I am not sure why. Just makes sure you have enough liquid in there.
Yes, I used the Reames noodles (they’re the best!) and they were on top. Not sure what the problem was. It was really good and just like the crock pot version with the exception of the noodles not being quite done.
This takes a long time to make! Anyone else think so? It’s delish though.
Glad you enjoyed it! For cooking in an Instant pot this is one of the shorter recipe times. Its one of our after work ago to meals. Pressure cooking takes time.
