Goldfield Mine Ghostown Arizona
In our Arizona adventure this year we made a stop at Goldfield Mine Ghostown. If you are ever visiting Phoenix, AZ be sure to make a stop here, it’s so much fun and full of interesting facts about the mining town that once lived.
Goldfield is rich in history and started as a town next to Superstition mountain. You can read more about the history and the rise and fall of the town here. It became famous during the gold strike in 1892. Years later in 1966 the town was reconstructed reflecting the gold town it once was including an underground mine. What beautiful views!
Now you can visit this little town and experience life-like it was with reenactments, a gold mine tour , shops and beautiful views of Superstition mountain where the legend of the Lost Dutchmen Mine is known exists in the mountains. There are lots other activities as well. Check out their website here to plan your visit.
We arrived mid morning as we had some time to spare before the wedding which was the reason we came to visit Phoenix. It was about 45 minutes from our hotel. It was a beautiful day and we are so glad we stopped there.
Mine Tour
When we arrived we signed up to take the mine tour for about $8. It was a great tour and the tour guide was full of interesting information.
Panning for Gold with high hopes!
Fun for all! Not only do you get to walk down main street of yesteryear but you get to tour the goldmine and pan for gold. Panning for any kind of treasure is always on my sons “Must Do” list. This was the perfect start to our western vacation. He found tiny sliver of gold that he put in the tiny bottle to take home. Its harder than you think, you need lots of sunlight, tweezers and really good eyes!
Later we made sure to catch the stand off gunfire reenactment with actors dressed in costumes of that period. We even got to snag a picture of them with Evan.
We shopped the stores and walked around enjoying the scenery.
We ended up purchasing some cactus seeds in the cactus shop to take back home because Evan wants to grow a giant cactus in our yard. Hmm, no cactus yet! We grabbed some ice cream before we headed back to get ready for the wedding later that day.
If you are every in the Phoenix area its a great place to stop for a couple of hours. We are so glad we went and will remember it for a very long time. The scenery is just so different from where we come from it’s strikingly beautiful. The Grand Canyon is yet to come, and if you think this is amazing view just you wait!
